Safety testing

What is inspected?

The SA is no "all-round test"

The safety audit concentrates exclusively on important parts affected by wear and due for repair as well as vehicle parts or systems that have a significant influence on vehicle safety and environmental effects.

These are:

  • Frame/ chassis/ linkage mechanisms
  • Steering
  • Tyres/wheels
  • Exhaust system
  • Brake system

In contrast the the main inspection, the safety audit does not distinguish between minor and major defects; any defect determined must be remedies before the safety audit can be confirmed. If the owner misses the date for the safety test then the main inspection cannot be carried out. In this case, the auditor first has to undertake a safety audit and then a main inspection (reduced by the safety audit test points).
