Conventional control and protection technology is now accompanied by digital control technology in modern railway systems. Due to greater safety awareness and the increasing importance of electronic components, correspondingly high safety demands are now placed on digital control technology. The special requirements posed by rail traffic are accounted for by separate standards and a detailed body of rules whose "V-model" is oriented toward product life cycles.
