Product bonding for motorcycle tyres, releases
Tyres and motorcycle: par excellence
A scheme that went flat: With its 2007 models, a large motorcycle manufacturer dispensed with the tire make obligation for the first time, which caused a lot of open questions among motorcycle riders. TÜV NORD Mobilität is ready with answers to the questions
Safety moves forward
For most motorcycles, especially very powerful and fast models, the vehicle documents have entries for both the tire size and the make or profile. These tires were extensively tested and found to be suitable. But, what if a vehicle manufacturer does away with the tire make obligation?
Contrary to popular opinion, you cannot help yourself to any tire on the market, because the legislators will continue to demand a documented release from the vehicle owner. The vehicle manufacturer is simply shifting the responsibility onto the customers and tire manufacturers.
When may you deviate from the tire make obligation?
The Federal Ministry for Traffic provides criteria for when you may deviate from the make or profile obligations in the vehicle's documents:
- The designation on the new tires (e.g. 160/70 B 17 73V) must completely agree with the information in the vehicle's documents.
- The tire must have a European test symbol, such as E4 or e1
- You must have an officially confirmed approval certificate from the vehicle manufacturer or the tire manufacturer before you put the tires on your motorcycle.
You can get an approval certificate for your motorcycle from the experts at our TÜV STATIONS.
