The Highway Code made simple
Inline skater
Even in the early days of skating, the courts viewed skaters and pedestrians equally. The ruling is now official. The 6th Civil Senate of the Federal Court in Karlsruhe has finally ruled that inline skates are a "special means of transportation". Skaters must obey the same rules as pedestrians.
This means that when inline skating, you may only skate on the pavement and you must exercise the required consideration of other pedestrians. If necessary, you must skate at a walking pace. Skating on the bicycle path is also no longer permitted.
