The function certification is based on the ARGE Directive "Fire Detection in Rolling Stock - Functional effectiveness of fire prevention systems in areas accessed by people, electric control cabinets and areas containing combustion machines".
The functional check of fire-fighting systems encompasses the areas that are accessible to passengers and the fire-extinguishing systems in the technical areas of railway vehicles. The testing focuses on the effectiveness of fire-fighting and fire-extinguishing equipment and the type of extinguishing agent used.
These guidelines stipulate the absolute minimum requirements regarding fire protection and fire-extinguishing equipment. Vehicle manufacturers or operators often outline extensive property protection aims for vehicles. As part of the process, TÜV NORD provides the relevant test programme.
