Cards for digital monitoring units
Whether for lorry or bus drivers, haulage companies or workshop owners: Those operating a digital control device must use the respectively appropriate card. You can find out which one you must use and how to apply for it here.
The driver card

Simple principle in accordance with EU regulations: All drivers must have their own valid driving license. In addition to the required driver identification data, it also stores all movement data. |
- An EU card driving licence in one of the following classes: B, BE, C, CE, C1, C1E, D, DE, D1 or D1E. If you still have an old driving licence, you should exchange it at the road traffic licensing department responsible
- Proof of residency in the Federal Republic of Germany (valid ID card or residency document)
- ID card/passport or, in the case of foreigners, a comparable ID document
- Recent photograph
The driver card is valid for five years and should be reapplied for prior to expiration in due time. This is possible no sooner than six months before expiry and no later than 15 days before expiry. If the card is lost, stolen, or has technical defects, you must apply for a replacement card.

The company card

Haulage companies and vehicle fleets with commercial vehicles covered by Traffic Regulations (EEC) 3820/85 require a company card. With this, you can display, download and print out all data stored in the digital control device. Company cards are issued directly for the company or business, and the number of cards required depends on the size of the company. |
The following documents are required for ordering a company card:
- Proof of commercial registration, e.g. excerpt from the register of companies
- Proof of the name of the owner, if appropriate power of attorney, e.g. by means of excerpt from the commercial register
The company card is valid for five years and should be reapplied for prior to expiry. This is possible no sooner than six months before expiry and no later than 15 days before expiry.

The workshop card

For the digital monitoring unit to be installed, repaired or calibrated, workshops and manufacturers of monitoring units and utility vehicles need the workshop card. Also applicable here: All authorised technicians need a card, on which the workshop owner or representative must also be specified. |
The following documents are required for ordering a company card:
1. Company documents:
- Excerpt from the commercial or professional register/guild register
- Excerpt from the register of companies
- Power of attorney, if appropriate
- Recognition of the company in accordance with § 57b StVZO
2. From the technician:
- Copy of ID card
- Proof of employment at the company
- Valid training certificate according to § 57b of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations
