Hazardous substances
Safety data sheets
The use of hazardous substances requires the adequate protection of employees and other persons that handle hazardous substances.
Environmental protection must be taken into account too. In this context, safety data sheets supply important information regarding:
- Materials identification (chemical designation, CAS numbers, EINECS numbers)
- Hazardous substances in preparations
- Emergency measures
- Applicable limiting values
- Categorization and identification according to the hazardous substances act
- Storage (water endangering class)
- Transport via public traffic routes (classification of hazardous substances)
- Emissions expected during operation (emission forecasts)
EC safety data sheets must be submitted to professional users (not private end-consumers) no later than the first delivery. Manufacturers, importers (including trading enterprises) and re-sellers (e.g. in the case of recycled waste materials) are responsible here..
The data sheets must be prepared by knowledgeable persons and updated regularly. Most EU countries require data sheets to be supplied in the respective national language. Different requirements apply in economic regions outside Europe (e.g. USA and Canada).
We are experts on the entire subject of data sheets; our long-standing experience makes us a one-stop shop for complete solutions.
Safety data sheets are not needed, e.g. for cosmetics, approved pharmaceuticals, waste intended for disposal and pesticides. Individually applicable laws must be observed in this case.
Which services do we offer?
- Based on your specifications, we prepare individual safety data sheets for you in the German language.
- We prepare your safety data sheets based on the currently published versions of the Federal German Industrial Association's standard sets (EU languages).
- We also offer detailed consultancy on open issues, e.g. regarding material properties, statutory provisions and international standards.
Which standards and statutory regulations form the basis of our work?
The European legal basis for safety data sheets is EC ordinance no. 1907/2006 (REACH), appendix II (layout and contents).
Categorization and identification details as well as instructions concerning transport and storage can be found in the ordinance on hazardous substances and technical rules concerning hazardous substances.
