Nuclear safety

Nuclear safety

Training and further training for authorised experts

The safe operation of nuclear facilities, their decommissioning, and the disposal of radioactive waste requires the use of highly skilled professionals - yesterday, today and in the future. The preservation of knowledge built up over decades concerning the safe operation of existing facilities is a major challenge for all involved. As part of its social responsibility, the TÜV NORD Group is meeting this challenge.

In the training centre for nuclear technology, we provide our competence, earned over 50 years of activity in the nuclear field, to future employees and experts of nuclear licensing and supervisory authorities.

In compact form, the participants in the presentations are trained in the practical application of nuclear technology issues. The spectrum ranges from teaching the broad base of knowledge in the introductory presentations to the application of in-depth issues in the specialist presentations.

The introductory course on nuclear technology experienced professionals introduce new employees to the fundamentals of nuclear technology in a reasonable time frame:

  • Technical and safety basics
  • The environment in which experts work
  • Legal fundamentals and technical rules
  • Introduction to experts' activities.

In the presentations on specialist nuclear technology experienced participations deepen their knowledge of:

  • Operating and accident behaviour of pressurised water reactors
  • Operating and accident behaviour of boiling water reactors
  • Decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear installations
  • Requirements for components subject to pressure; Nuclear Safety Standards Commission standards
  • Internal emergency protection in nuclear power plants and incidents that exceed the design.

The technically oriented events are complemented with seminars on the development of methodological and social skills (see also seminars in the areas of management, communication, and quality management):

  • Human factors/Man, Technology, Organisation (MTO) and event analysis.
